The Milwaukee Brewers finished the month of April with a 20-7 record, one win shy of tying the New York Yankees for the most wins in the month of April. For anyone who claims they saw this coming, I call you a liar.
Going into the season, I thought the Brewers had a chance at being a better team then a lot of national pundits gave them credit for. But, I never expected this sort of start from the Brew Crew.
So, how are the Brewers winning? It's all pitching. They're getting quality starts from their starting pitchers (Matt Garza could certainly improve though) and their bullpen has been lights out dominate. The Brewers have been a team the past couple of years who have struggled with pitching and so far, it looks like they have fixed that issue.
The offense hasn't been that bad either, but its a different offense then what were use to seeing a Brewers team have. Were use to seeing them be a home run hitting team, but the Brewers are playing small ball and being very aggressive with their base running.
But one thing I wanted to see the Brewers accomplish before I believed they could be legitimate contenders was they needed to beat the St. Louis Cardinals. They accomplished that by winning this past series against them. And they won the series without their star players like: Ryan Braun, Jean Segura, Aramis Ramirez, and even Johnathan Lucroy for a game. They even had Scooter Gennett batting in the third hole!
All in all, things are clicking for the Brewers. They are going through an injury rut right now, but none of the injuries are deemed too serious. So, can this stretch of winning continue for the Brewers? Time will only tell. The season is extremely early, as they have only completed their first month of a long season. But the Brewers officially have my attention. I'm not ready to claim them as World Series contenders, but they do have my attention as being playoff contenders. They just have to stay healthy and the pitching has to continue to be as dominate as they have been. If the Brewers can accomplish that, the sky is the limit for this team.
