The challenger for the 3rd District congressional seat made his first visit to Eau Claire since winning last week's Republican primary. Tony Kurtz says dismal approval ratings for congress are a sign that voters should replace long-serving representatives, and that the federal government needs to step back in many areas
"I'm a big believer in state rights. There's a lot of things the federal government does not do very well that the states will do much better," Kurtz said Tuesday, citing education as an example.
"They're going to solve their problems better than the federal government."
Kurtz said Obamacare is not the answer to health insurance reform
"My solution is something based on free market principals, competition across state lines. Right now if you're a small business or an individual, you have to buy the policy here in Wisconsin. Why?"
Kurtz is a 20-year US Army Veteran. After retirement, he started a company that teaches military units accident investigation, and began organic farming in Prairie Du Chien.
