A donation from Pixar Animation Studios will help local college students prepare for careers in the industry.
The California animation company has donated 25,000 dollars worth of Renderman animation software to the game design and entertainment design programs at UW Stout in Menomonie. Stout officials say Renderman is the industry standard in animation software, and has been used by 90 percent of Academy Award winners for visual effects in the past 20 years. Pixar is known for the hit animated films Toy Story, Cars, Monsters Inc, and many others. UW Stout department of design chair Dave Beck says the software will allow any student working in 3D animation to acheive a level of realisting render quality akin to that found in the industry, and to train and learn on the same software used by the industry is essential for UW Stout's students. The software will be installed in 2 computer animation labs at UW-Stout.
