Things I learned on the way to somewhere else-Late October Issue 2013

Somewhere amidst my stack of newspapers, magazines, books, brochures, pamphlets, church bulletins and catalogs, I discover a thing or two I wasn't really looking for, but I found it anyway. Curious little things like:

* 42 percent of Americans want to change at least one aspect of their Thanksgiving celebrations (Better Homes and Gardens)

* October 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of Camel cigarettes. 1 million CAMELS were sold in the first year. 425 million the year later--Camels still holds the record for the most smokes sold in a single year--1952--105 Billion. ( Eau Claire Leader-Telegram)

* Coming soon, will be centuries before that kind of calendar enumeration comes again ( um, look at a calendar )

* Movie Theatre Popcorn is more expensive per ounce than filet mignon(PLAYBOY)

* President Kennedy was the only US President outlived by his Grandmother (Eau Claire Leader-Telegram )

*Tanzanite will be mined out within our lifetime (Jewelry Television)

* Oreos may be as addictive as cocaine, to lab rats ( Hartford Courant)

* This Fall, 233 Longfellow students (79 percent) and 250 Lakeshore students (57 percent) qualify for free and reduced price meals ( First Congregational UCC Talk of the Tower )
